Summary:
This new role operates within the Data Science department of the Technical Operations and Process Sciences (TOPS) division and reports to the Data Science Department head. The successful candidate will, using their background in physical sciences and data science, lead a new function focused on ad-hoc data analysis and automated reporting. The role focuses on providing direct data science and related consulting/support services to the scientists in the Technical Development functional area. Through the development and application of data science tools, it will advance the process development and product quality understanding for our transformative cancer therapies. This role interacts heavily with Lab Scientists, Business Partners, CMC Statistics, Data Analytics, Data Engineering, and Automation teams.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Provide representation of Data Science to the Technical Development functional area by interfacing with scientific staff across all disciplines, identifying and executing on opportunities for data analysis, engineering, and automation, and by translating the lab sciences needs to other teams within the data science department
- Perform on-demand scientific data analysis and data processing across the Technical Development teams (with a focus on automation and on Analytical Sciences and the Mass Spec Core team) and work with lab staff to draw scientific conclusions from complex laboratory data
- Lead development and drive adoption of automated report generation including identification of scientifically relevant high-value reports, generation of appropriate template content, and authoring of high-quality software that enables those reports
- Innovate and coordinate with Data Analytics, Data Engineering, Automation and CMC Statistics teams to develop and execute data capture, processing, and analysis that enables use of high-information content data to the understanding of product quality and other questions in biologics manufacturing
- Act as a leading scientific interface between product and process teams and the Data Science Department and potentially lead a team of other data analysts
- Lead projects and operate independently, facilitating communications, and providing updates to project stakeholders, customers, and management; Develop comprehensive and executable plans for projects, involving deliverables
Required Qualifications:
- PhD and 5+ years, or MS and 14+ years’ experience in physical sciences with a focus on computational tools and/or analytical sciences in graduate or post-graduate work
- Deep understanding of process development and molecular characteristics of antibodies and/or antibody drug conjugates
- Experience with proteins, post translational modifications, and other sequence-related impacts on molecular and drug product behavior
- Experience using various data analysis tools in the interpretation of laboratory data for complicated scientific applications
- Proficient in the use of at least one programming language;(Python, R, C#, Java, etc.) with a strong preference for python
- Experience interfacing with electronic lab notebook (ELN) systems such as Benchling and Dotmatics
Scientific communication skills including technical presentations at varying levels of audiences
- Project management and technical leadership skills with an enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary team environment
- Effective communication skills including ability to bridge the relationship between bench level scientists, automation, and information technology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing software for in-house applications including the use of cloud deployment (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and source control (e.g., git)
- Experience with relational database systems (MS SQL, SQL Lite, MySQL) and SQL language
- Experience with Mass Spectrometry data analysis workflows and interpretation
- Experience developing pipelines for data replication between heterogeneous data sources

The hiring pay range for this position is $149,000 to $193,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
