Position Summary:
Seagen’s Small Molecule Process Development is responsible for the development of drug-linkers and small molecule APIs from Research to market authorization. This work is based on interdisciplinary collaboration among synthetic chemistry, engineering, analytical chemistry, and biotechnology. Our scientists develop innovative solutions to accelerate research programs to the clinic, and tech transfer processes to external partners for pre-clinical and clinical materials supply. The ideal candidate must have strong technical knowledge with practical experience in process engineering combined with the spirit of innovation and an efficient approach to problem solving.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Apply engineering fundamentals towards developing drug-linker and small molecule processes at lab, pilot, and manufacturing scales
- Understand unit operation design, process modeling and optimization, process equipment selection, and scale-up methodologies
- Collaborate with process chemists and analytical chemists on synthetic strategy and route development
- Design, implement, and interpret data rich experiments independently
- Utilize various process modeling approaches to ensure robust tech transfer to pilot and commercial scale facilities
- Develop and implement new technologies for process improvement at external manufacturing partners
Required Qualifications:
- Laboratory experimental skills
- Experience using automated reactor and sampling systems
- Experience building reaction or unit operation models with software such as DynoChem®, Reaction LabTM, ASPEN, and MatLab
- Knowledge and experience applying Design of Experiments
- Strong organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
- A team player with good communication skills, desire to achieve team and individual goals
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills
- A BS, MS, or Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering or a related field is required
- BS with 10+ years, MS with 8+ years, or Ph.D. with 1+ years of process development experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) such as Raman, FTIR, NIR, on-line HPLC, and FBRM
- Experience with separation processes such as Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF), membrane separation, chromatography purification, or Supercritical Fluid Precipitation/Extraction
- Knowledge of / experience with flow chemistry systems
- Experience with technical transfer of processes into external manufacturing partners

The hiring pay range for this position is $100,000 to $130,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
