This position will report to the and will be based in Vancouver, BC.

Key Responsibilities
- Serves a partner with all Zymeworks’ business departments to leverage technology in order to help them achieve their strategic, long- and short-term business objectives.
- Based on the overall corporate objectives and timelines develop an overarching ‘cloud-first’ technical architecture, landscape and roadmap to capture the annual/ quarterly technology initiatives necessary to enable the business.
- Participates in the strategic and long-term direction of the IT department. Ensures department and operational activities are aligned with corporate objectives and business roadmap. Seeks “voice of the customer” input to continuously improve the value of the IT department in the eyes of the business customers. Working with the various departments identify and then monitor the key SLAs and KPIs to measure the continuous improvement results.
- Plan, research, and execute on company-wide capital and operational projects, including major software systems acquisitions and configurations, network infrastructure projects, cloud migrations and general updates to the Company’s computational infrastructure across multiple operating locations.
- Manages cross-functional team of employees. Monitors the performance, encourages the growth and facilitates the development of team members’ skills through training, mentorship opportunities and sharing of knowledge. Leads through both technical and strategic expertise to establish an environment fostering effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Manages the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, uptime and support of all IT systems, including servers, computers, hosted/cloud solutions, operating systems, telephones systems, software applications, and peripherals.
- In conjunction with operational leadership across the business, oversees and is accountable for enterprise-wide systems implementations, as well as developing and executing on post-launch support and optimization roadmaps.
- Analyzes complex business needs presented by the internal user community, strategic pharmaceutical partners and vendors, and recommends cost effective and secure technical solutions that support the Company’s strategic goals and priorities.
- Develops and implements all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service levels.
- Institutes and continuously improves operating procedures ensuring “best practices” and compliance with SOX/COC/COBIT/CFR21part11 requirements are integrated into all IT system plans and operations.
- Identifies appropriate vendors and works with Procurement to maintain contracts and service agreements with selected service providers.
- Manages the preparation of operating and personnel budgets and plans. Authorizes expenditures, oversees forecasting activities, and communicates anticipated variances to senior management as required, as well as mitigation options as appropriate.
- Ensures regular and proactive communication among business constituents and the IT department staff. Monitors, tracks, helps resolve, and reports business/program status to key stakeholders including senior management.
- Provides oversight and participates in setting the overall security architecture, including hybrid internal/external security and integrity controls across the organization.
- Provides quarterly IT systems integrity and security reports to the Audit Committee.
- Keeps current with latest technology and industry trends related to the industry.
- Proactively searches for ways to improve the overall quality of IT services, as well as ways to speed the enablement business process improvement initiatives (including evaluating all delivery options – AMS, etc.).
Qualifications and Education
- University degree in a related technical discipline (Computer Science, Information Systems or related) coupled with project management training and a minimum of 15 years’ related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including experience sourcing, deploying and supporting applications within a GxP environment.
- Proven ability to develop a multi-year Technology Architecture, Landscape and Roadmap that enables all business departments to deliver their strategic goals and/or world-class capabilities, leveraging synergies to improve Corporate performance and lower overall costs of IT.
- Experience in successfully leading enterprise systems implementations, including Tier-1 ERP and HRIS systems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both technical and non-technical staff.
- Strong leadership skills with the proven ability to manage, develop and empower employees while simultaneously encouraging a business partnering mentality.
- Ability to think and act strategically, anticipate road-blocks and map out next steps and communicate them, as well as possible solutions, in business language.
- Strong track record of instituting and continuously improving operating procedures ensuring best in class.
- Experience operating in, managing and supporting a hybrid Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage concurrent deliverables and work effectively in a challenging, milestone-driven environment.
- Strong oral, written and listening skills.
- Demonstrated high level of integrity and ethics.
