Summary

The role of the Principal Solution Architect for Master Data Management sets the technical direction for our Enterprise Data Management capabilities. This person will shape, design, and plan the portfolio’s long-range technology roadmap, to anticipate future business needs and to maximize the long-term value of data products. The Principal Solution Architect will provide leadership, mentorship, and technical expertise to data teams across multiple initiatives. This role creates and maintains data product architectures, integrated with the foundation’s enterprise architecture.

The Principal Solution Architect will help design optimal data products, employing best practices for data modeling, retention, visualization, analysis, and security. Other responsibilities include collaborating with other DSS&S architects and engineers to design, adopt, and enforce architectural best practices and standards, contributing to the overall health and roadmap of our data platform. The solution architect may also be asked to lead solution teams and flex staff that are involved in the design, implementation, and operational aspects of our data products.

The Principal Solution Architect will bring innovative thinking, an agile mindset, and substantial strategic architectural experience to empower application and data owners to build and maintain compliant, scalable, and governed data solutions. The successful solution architect will work closely with leadership, the Enterprise Architecture team, and business stakeholders to deliver enterprise data capabilities, products, and services to Seagen.

Responsibilities:

  • Solution Design
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive and detailed technical blueprint of assigned data products and capabilities.
    • Create solution options that align DSS&S capabilities with business sponsor’s missions, goals, and objectives with consideration of both technical and non-technical implications and trade-offs.
    • Identify areas for data quality improvements and help to resolve data quality problems through the appropriate choice of error detection and correction, process control and improvement, or process design strategies.
    • Review and recommend selection of third-party software platforms as needed.
    • Develop and leverage a broad understanding of the overall Global IT landscape and Seagen business architecture.
    • Ensure master data integrity in key systems, as well as maintaining the processes to support the data quality.
    • Ensure quality of master data in key systems, as well as development and documentation of processes with other functional data owners to support ongoing maintenance and data integrity.

  • Solution Implementation:
    • Produce blueprints that guide the development and implementation of data products across multiple teams and initiatives.
    • Aid in resolving data quality problems through the appropriate choice of error detection and correction, process control and improvement, or process design strategies collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs) and data stewards.
    • Demonstrate experience in managing MDM related applications.
    • Provide direction to DSS&S scrum teams during data product delivery.

  • Leadership:
    • Effectively articulate how DSS&S can realize business value through new technologies.
    • Mentor technical team members.
    • In collaboration with subject matter experts and data stewards, define and implement data strategy, policies, controls, and programs to ensure the enterprise data is accurate, complete, secure, and reliable.
    • Direct the day-to-day work of flex staff as necessary.
    • Contribute to the foundation’s Enterprise Architecture, following and shaping Enterprise Architecture best practices, adhering to standard activities and deliverables for DSS&S solutions.
    • Share solutions and outcomes with DSS&S to improve delivery on future initiatives.

  • Customer Engagement:
    • Partner directly with business to deeply understand business capabilities and business strategies.
    • Incorporate user feedback into the DSS&S’s solution architecture to support business strategies.
    • Represent EDM in formal presentations, the broader goals, strategies, and priorities of DSS&S across Global IT as needed.
    • Collaborate with domain data teams from on-boarding to data product publishing activities.

  • Product and Service Strategy:
    • Independently develop and maintain the technology roadmap for assigned data products and applications.
    • Collaborate with business and IT partners to ensure that the data product roadmap creates business value with technically sound solutions.
    • Ensure implementations support technology and business roadmaps.
    • Proactively seek out and advocate for opportunities to apply technical innovations to business needs.

  • Continual Improvement:
    • Frequently monitor the business capability landscape to identify opportunities for greater long-term business value.
    • Frequently monitor the industry solution landscape to track the development of available solutions and identify opportunities for adapting to the enterprise data product architecture.
    • Partner with peers in Enterprise Architecture team to ensure the MDM framework remains relevant and useful.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of IT experience with major focus on data and information related teams and initiatives
  • 7+ years of experience working with and delivering data and information related solutions
  • 5+ years of experience within the biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry preferred
  • Demonstratable experience in leading technical teams on implementation needs
  • An expert in advanced topics in data architecture, business intelligence, data warehousing, and/or data management Understanding of data architecture concepts, data design, and data modeling
  • Experience working with data management applications such as Reltio, Alation, Dell Boomi, Informatica, Collibra, etc.
  • Understanding of SOX and GxP computerized systems compliance requirements, US and global preferred including understanding of GDPR regulations and impact on Seagen Data
  • Understanding of Data Mesh and or Data Fabric methodologies to data products
  • Expertise in outlining solution architecture descriptions, monitoring and governing their implementation and identifying continual improvement opportunities in alignment with Enterprise Architecture framework
  • Demonstratable experience of leading technical teams for implementations.
  • An expert in advanced topics in MDM, modern data warehousing and analysis including diverse experience in MDM platforms.
  • Strong data architecture and database skills from consuming to rendering for MDM implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentations; ability to articulate technology impact to business customers at all levels.
  • Exceptional teaming skills encompassing cross-functional teams, peer relationships, informing, understanding, and appreciating differences.
  • Ability to estimate and recommend total cost of ownership with and for colleagues and business owners.
  • A continuous learner, keeping existing technical skills up to date while seeking out new technology trends in technical domains relevant to assigned portfolio.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the concepts of new cloud technologies and other paradigms such as emerging Big Data technologies, lean methodologies to propose appropriate controls and compliance guidance.
  • Accepts responsibility and personal accountability.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in information science, data management, computer science or related field.
