Little Colorado River at Grand Falls Arizona’s location in the southwestern U.S. places it in close proximity to California and the country of Mexico. Many transportation options exist within the Grand Canyon State. Vehicles can use the Interstate highway system, via I-8, I-10 and I-40 east to west, I-15 north to south, and I-17 and I-19 north to south, which actually are intrastate only. Arizona also contains many U.S. routes and state routes throughout the state.

Major airports within Arizona include Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, serving over 3.3 million passengers annually; Tucson International Airport with over 4.2 million passengers annually; Scottsdale Airport; Yuma International Airport; and Williams Gateway Airport in Mesa.

Rail service in Arizona is possible via Amtrak, which offers the Southwest Chief route, connecting Los Angeles, California to Chicago, Illinois and with stops in Winslow, Flagstaff, Williams Junction, and Kingman. Amtrak also offers the Sunset Limited, with stops in Benson, Tucson, Maricopa, and Yuma.

Arizona offers numerous public transit options for commuters. The Phoenix metropolitan area offers Valley Metro commuter bus service, vanpool, and carpool services; in 2008 a light rail system is scheduled to begin. Tucson provides Sun Tran public transportation, which consists of 37 fixed routes and a fleet of 196 coaches. The Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority operates regional transit routes such as the Mountain Line and VanGo paratransit routes in Flagstaff, RoadRunner services in Sedona, and coordinates with the Mountain Campus Transit route for Northern Arizona University. Yuma offers Yuma County Area Transit (YCAT) in the form of buses. Even Grand Canyon National Park offers Grand Canyon Transit (GCT).
